The Council has short listed these 7 proposals which meet its criteria for the use of the Land Securities monies

+ Contribution to the Old Priory Garden project

+ Restoration of the Village Green

+ Contribution to the repair of St Nicolas Church roof

+ Protection of the Sheila Horton Mural in the Village Centre

+ Relocation of War Memorial to Village Green 

+ Heritage signage in areas of the Parish and Creating heritage website

+ Survey and Map of Village Footpaths

The proposers of each one will be allocated 5 minutes to present the proposals in detail at the Parish AGM at the Village Centre on 20 May at 7.30 pm.

There were 6 Councillors including the Chairman at the meeting yesterday. 

I addressed the meeting before it started. It is a statutory requirement for the public to be allowed to do so.

The attachment is a copy of what I said.

The Council voted  5 to 1 to become a closed meeting.  The 4 people in the Public gallery were asked to leave.

Further to the email below :

A notice has been posted announcing that a Council meeting will be held at 3 00 pm next Wednesday, 30 April ”To  preview and short list proposals in respect of the Land Securities monies.” 

The Council propose to exclude the public and the press from the meeting because of “the confidential nature of the business to be transacted”

Your Society Committee considers that this meeting should be a normal Council meeting, open to the public and the press. It considers that the Land Securities monies belong to the Parish and its residents and that any discussion about their use must be open to public scrutiny. It  considers there is nothing of a “confidential nature” to be protected.

Your Society Committee wishes to know what you think. Should the meeting be a closed meeting?

Subject: A Reminder

The deadline for the receipt of proposals for using the £100.000 ’windfall’ received by the Parish  from  Land Securities, the developers of the new Bishop Centre, is just five days away.



Proposal must be received by the Parish Clerk by 30th April. The criteria set by the Parish Council are that a proposal must offer permanent ‘legacy’ value, must benefit the entire Parish community, must be affordable within the amount of the ‘windfall’ and must not must not require any long term maintenance costs which cannot be met within the Council’s normal annual budget.



The Clerk has advised that any proposal which the Council considers fails to meet these criteria will be rejected and the proposer will be advised of its rejection.



The proposals meeting the criteria will be presented for consideration at the Annual Parish Meeting in the Village Centre on 20th May. Proposers will be allowed up to 5 minutes to present their idea. 



The Clerk has advised that the Council will determine which proposals it considers to be feasible at a full meeting of the Council on a date to be announced,.
