[mythtvnz] mythtv crashes attempting to play recording, live tv and mythvideo on remote frontend

Hi,
Its been a while since I have had any trouble with mythtv.  I upgraded 
my ubuntu distribution over the weekend.  Unfortunately, I am unable to 
watch any live tv, recordings, or mythvideos.

This only happens on the frontend-only box.  I can do all the usual 
stuff on the backend-cum-frontend box.  But I don't use it for viewing 
as its site in the garage.  This does all the recording work and is 
working well.

I have tried the following:
- disabling compiz / desktop effects
- I have tried using the command mythfrontend -v recording and 
mythfrontend -v all

But I am clueless.  I have investigated audio issues but don't know much 
about the output.

Following is the console output when attempting to watch live tv.  I 
would appreciate any direction.  Out of ideas at the moment.
