[mythtvnz] VDPAU package can be removed?

I solved my problem eventually. I installed JYA's VDPAU backport, and
still got the tearing. He mentions in his FAQ that tearing with
composite enabled is the norm, so I added the Option "Composite"
"Disabled" into my xorg.conf and voila - tearing was gone. What puzzled
me however, is that even when I disable VDPAU in the playback profile
(because I get micro pauses on playback), the tearing is still gone.

Can anyone shed light on what composite means? Would you expect it to
stop tearing even on the standard Xv decoder? I'm very tempted to roll
back to the standard Ubuntu Mythtv repository to see whether the tearing
returns, but it's been so painful getting here I don't want to upset
things J

Perhaps Ubuntu 9.04 disables composite, and that's why tearing
disappeared for you ?!?

Aaron,

I haven't been following this thread in great detail, but I feel I
should say that when I upgraded to jaunty my tv viewing became
delicious, instead of tearing all over the place. I'm not sure if this
was due to the kernel upgrade, or the compiz upgrade though.

Cheers

Aaron.
