Quantum Computing

Dave Harvey, Thales UK Research and Technology

Thursday 23 Feb 2017 19.00 for 19.30

Palmer Building, University of Reading RG6 6UR

Quantum physics underpins a large and diverse range of technologies
which now form the backbone of the modern world. These have been based
on the exploitation of quantum effects at a macroscopic level. In the
last decade or so a new generation of quantum technologies is now
emerging. These are based on the exploitation of quantum effects at a
much smaller level, namely on the scale of a few particles.
Furthermore, these technologies often rely on the quantum mechanical
effects of superposition and entanglement. Until recently, these
technologies were typically confined to lab-based experiments,
however, they are now approaching the stage where they can be
considered for development into products and services. This is being
branded by some as the “Second Quantum Revolution".

This event is free of charge and open to all, with refreshments at
19.00, lecture at 19:30.
