Insects and Mammals: The challenges of low power design for the
Internet of Things
Andrew Beckett, Cadence Design Systems
Thursday 26 May 2016 19.00 for 19.30
Systems Engineering, University of Reading RG6 6UR
The Internet of Things creates the need for a large number of small,
ultra low power integrated circuits, sometimes in modern advanced
process node technologies.
In this talk, I will discuss how the IoT compute model works and an
always-on illusion is maintained, together with some of the challenges
of creating ultra low power digital, digital signal processor and
analog designs on silicon. I will also explore how advanced process
nodes (smaller than 20nm feature size) make such design even harder
and what can be done to ensure that battery life is maximised.
This event is free of charge and open to all, with refreshments at
19.00, lecture at 19:30.
