TETRA, TEDS and beyond

David Chater-Lea, Motorola

Since its origins in the early 1990s, the TETRA standard has matured
and become the technology of choice for professional digital mobile
radio systems around the world. Its integrated voice and data
capability with in-built security have led to its adoption for most
national public safety radio systems in Europe, such as the Airwave
system in the UK.

However, TETRA has not remained a static standard and continues to
evolve to add new capabilities, particularly in the areas of data
transfer. The TETRA Advanced Data Service (TEDS) addition to the
standard has added wideband data transfer to the original standard
capabilities, and products with this capability are now emerging on
the market. Meanwhile TEDS itself is being further developed to
provide more efficient data transfer. The presentation will discuss
the evolution of the TETRA standard until the present, and will look
at future developments aimed at taking TETRA further into the 21st
century.

This event is free of charge and open to all, with refreshments at 19.00.
