Lecture April 2004

Personal Role Radio

Mike Winter
Davies Industrial Communications

Thursday 22nd April 2004 at 19:30

Room 062, Brunel University Lecture Centre, Uxbridge

Light refreshments available from 19:00-19:30

Synopsis

This lecture will cover the requirement for a Personal Role Radio
issued by UK MoD and the methods and technology selected to create a
new radio system within 9 months. It has been successfully deployed
and the use of the radio has only been limited by the imagination of
the user. The PRR system continues to be evaluated for Homeland
Defence applications, data enhancements and the reduction of the MMI
workload to allow the user greater environmental awareness.

The technology chosen will be discussed together with others which
were rejected. The design requirements, development and trials
leading to the final PRR specification will be highlighted. COMSEC
and the need for single and dual user applications will also be
considered.

Applications both in the UK and the US will be presented including
dual switch, command radio and scene of incident use such as in
Operation Oscirus with London Underground.

If you want to know more, come along. Everyone is welcome and no
ticket is needed. Simply turn up on the night.
