Synopsis
The Environment Agency has recently embarked on a multi-million pound
modernisation programme designed to improve the effectiveness of its
Information Technology systems. Part of this initiative involves
updating its real-time telemetry systems which provide the key base
data upon which flood warning and water resource management depend.
The development of a multi-regional approach to implementing these
new telemetry systems will be covered highlighting the management
issues and constraints involved. The technical challenges of moving
from an already existing and complex installed base network to a
single modern internet style look-and-feel without interruption to
service will be reviewed.
The design will be explained emphasising the need for high system
availability and resilience, and a multi-layered alarm reporting
system. The issues associated with the migration from the existing
network of outstations to being able to access them from the new
system will also be covered.
If you want to know more, come along. Everyone is welcome and no
ticket is needed. Simply turn up on the night.
