Synopsis
Delivering broadband services to large and small businesses, schools and other
places of learning and ultimately to the mass market is a goal of the UK
government and a world-wide matter of great interest.

Mesh radio systems are a relatively recent idea, capable of providing the "last mile"
connection to wideband services for large numbers of end users both
cost-effectively and within the available radio spectrum. The first mesh radio
systems have been undergoing trials in recent months and are now being deployed
by network operators.

The concept, features and performance of these networks will be described,
together with a comparison with alternative means of delivering broadband
services.
