The Society is sad to record the death of Tony Hickman. Tony was a very long
standing member, chairman and vice-president of our Society. He contributed
with great expertise to our planning evaluations and will also be remembered
as a founder of the Village Green Party, still going strong after thirty
years. Our thought are with his family.
His life will be celebrated at St Nicolas Church on Friday December 8th at
2:30pm for those who wish to attend.
Planning matters:
The Old Boathouse Mill Lane
As you may know, planning permission has already been granted for change of
use from office to residential for the Old Boathouse site on Mill Lane Your
committee was given a presentation by egg Homes who are looking to develop
the site. The actual application is expected to be made almost immediately.
An immediate concern is the loss of the Old Boathouse, although the
developer intends to preserve its gable ends. The general approach is much
more modern style than the Berkeley Homes houses. We will refrain from more
detailed comment until we see the full application.
Mill Lane car park
An application has also been made by Berkeley Homes for a car park on the
eastern side of Mill Lane. Berkeley Homes are due to make a presentation to
the Parish Council at the meeting on the 28th about some intentions they
have for the area where their exhibition building is now. We are again
refraining from comment on the car park application until we see their wider
intentions.
Care Home proposal
As part of the emerging Local Plan, SBDC made a series of Green Belt
evaluations. Option 15 was for the land adjacent to Taplow station on the
south side (essentially the Roots Garden Centre and the Motor Caravan
business). A developer is hoping to build a Care Home on the Roots site.
Your committee will meet with them shortly but in support of their plans
they will be holding an exhibition at the Village Hall.
This is to be on Wednesday 13th December between 2:30 and 19:30.
AGM
Reminder that the AGM is December 8th 8pm. The meeting is open to all and
the talk on our new footbridge by Martin Knight, a world renowned bridge
designer, should be most interesting, so do encourage non-members to come.
Road works
There are to be closures on the A4 over the bridge in support of new water
mains and along by Tesco for resurfacing works. Details will be updated on
the web site on the NEWS pages.
