Dear Member
The Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Monday was a sell-out success, with a hundred
children and adults enjoying the hunt, tea and cakes and conversation in
Sheila Peroni's beautiful gardens. Thanks to Charlie and Toby Greeves for a
great morning. On-line ticketing made their job of preparation much easier.
The Spring newsletter is on its way to your letter box complete with flyer
for the Village Green Party. Book the date - 24th June on the Green! Ticket
details on the flyer.
The Parish Council has distributed a questionnaire relating to the
developing Neighbourhood Plan for Taplow. Please do make an effort to
respond to this, particularly on how you would like Taplow to improve and
what most needs care and protection. When adopted, the Plan has legal force,
unlike earlier Parish Plans which are advisory only. If you have mislaid
your copy it is available on the parish council web site
(www.taplowpc.org.uk <http://www.taplowpc.org.uk> ) or you can write
directly with your views to taplownp at gmail.com <mailto:taplownp at gmail.com>
The Society will be submitting its own view.
The Annual Parish Meeting is on the 23rd May. Do go to support the Parish
Council, which is due to elect a new chairman and needs at least one new
councillor.
Technology and communications are making progress. Online ticketing and
banking are making activities more efficient to run and will lead to more
choices for subscription management. We have re-connected the earlier web
site content into the new web site, so all our historic information is
available again. We are actively promoting use of our News and Diary
services on the website and encourage you to contribute, including any local
organisation activity dates of general interest.
Lincoln Lee Memorial
When Helen and Lincoln Lee died their sons donated money for a memorial to
recognise their great contribution to Taplow life. A bench with an
inscription has now been ordered and will be installed in the Old Priory
Gardens. For newer arrivals to Taplow, see the Spring and Autumn 2006
editions of the Newsletter for further background. Older Newsletters can be
found now on our web site under the "ARCHIVE" menu.
MIND attempt on Guinness World record
The MIND charity is planning a fund raising run in Hyde Park on 20th May
supported by the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry. The intention is a 5km
run with everybody holding hands and being represented by every parish along
the Thames. If you would like to volunteer to represent Taplow the
information is at
https://race-nation.com/run-together-4-heads-together
Local Government
The election has pushed back any decision on the Unitary Authority changes
to the end of the year. This and the Government white paper "Fixing our
broken housing market" will give SBDC problems in progressing the Local
Plan. In particular the white paper proposes changes to the way in which
housing need is assessed. As housing need is a cornerstone of the Local Plan
it creates uncertainty over the Plan's core numbers.
Heathrow expansion
The consultation on the proposed third runway is in progress. Any approval
of the expansion will have harmful effects on Taplow. Obviously noise will
have a major impact but there will be many consequential effects. These
include significant traffic growth on the M4, with the A4 through Taplow
acting as the relief road when an accident closes the M4 and almost certain
depredations in South Buck to accommodate extra and displaced housing and
businesses.
The Parish Council and the Society will be making responses but we encourage
you to write individually. We will be posting more information on our web
site shortly.
