I followed instructions from eeebuntu, usbuntu & the launchpad UME instructions to install the latest Ubuntu Remix UME on my eeePC 701.

LOVE IT! And it sure turns heads! (was a hit @ the RMS lecture here in Auck)

Post-installation it a bit tricky, but found all into on ubuntuforums OK. 
Be sure to turn off swap. On-board 4G flash "hdd" is pretty-much full with OS & apps, but dicksmith's are selling 1G SD cards @ $15 a pop.
