[mythtvnz] DVD doesn't want to play in a bluray player

Some progress:
I re-compiled the kernel with iso9660 and udf support and installed it.
vlc plays the dvd just fine.
mythbuntu has the libdvdcss2 option checked.
When I try to play the dvd I now get in /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log:

At this point I have a blank screen and no DVD menuand it just sits
there until I hit escape to return to the play dvd menu.
Note: I hid the dvd serial number in the above log
Any ideas?
