[mythtvnz] will Freeview keep doing Digital Standard Definition alongside HD?

Sorry if this is a n00b question, but I've been putting off bothering 
with digital cards as I keep being freaked out by the CPU grunt required 
to do the HD stuff. I have a VIA-based diskless frontend and it's 
hardware MPEG2 decoder ain't worth jack when it comes to MPEG4.

Soooo, is Freeview Terrestrial going to go exclusively HD - or will it 
also be available via SD? And if so, how "lossy" would it be for me to 
convert the SD-digital MPEG4 back to MPEG2 on my gruntier backend server 
- for the ease of my VIA frontend? Actually, I guess I could also ask 
the question about converting HD MPEG4 back to SD MPEG2? And would such 
transoding mean the recorded program would no longer be treated as a 
"Recording" - but a "video"? I want to keep them in the "Recordings" section

...or am I really doomed to upgrade to some (literally) hot frontend? I 
hope not :-(
