That has traditionally been the case. But AMD have promised better support
for Linux with open source drivers and since nVidia apparently can't be
bothered supporting PureVideo HD on Linux (so H264 decoding has to be done
entirely by the CPU) it's not clear that the situation will stay as it is
now.
