NZ Post delivery status updates work well for us. I run two accounts so
that Jane and I get updates for tracked parcels that we are both interested
in and techie stuff generates progress emails just for me. We usually get a
final email 5-10 minutes after parcels are delivered to home (no signature
required for rural). Parcels that get lost stick around in my NZ post
account for months until I delete them. I have a couple of tracked items in
progress at the moment, I'll let you know if our status updates disappoint.

The only problems that we have had was when items were being stolen from
post boxes in Diamond Harbour, and when items ordered from Christchurch
take 8 days to turn up. I don't think either of those problems were to do
with NZ post. It is frustrating how long it takes for international parcels
to transit from Auckland to Lyttelton.
