Nah jbod puts a filesystem over the top, so its increasing your 
vulnerability with no net gain other than more linear space.

Looks nice - Another possibility is

/usr/share/doc/mythtv-backend/contrib/user_jobs/mythlink.pl --dest 
/myth3/human-listing


which makes a bunch of symlinks with real names in a directory.

Might be suitable, might not be.
