When I said "for some reason" I was referring to my thought processes not
your choice of distro :) In fact I believe mythbuntu is a very good choice.

Mythtv runs on many kernels (linux, freebsd, MacOSX, Windows...) and of
course you can make it work on any reasonably modern linux distro. However
there are many i's to dot ant t's to cross so a distro built for myth is a
LOT easier. Those basically amount to mythbuntu (ubuntu based) and LinHES
(arch based). Mythdora (fedora based) is deadish, although there are at
least two good dedicated RPM repos which seem to work on fedora, and other
redhat derivatives.

I have recently played with LinHES and although it is fantastic in many
ways, for someone like me that likes to fiddle, it is not the best IMHO.

So that leaves *buntu. The worst part is the non rolling release model, and
the best part is the fact that the current and next (ie development)
versions of mythtv are available via the mythbuntu repos.
