I am new to using a mailing list so I don't know why you are seeing a new
thread each time I reply.I am replying to the Digest after editing it and
changing
the subject line to the subject line of the original email - perhaps this
is
not the correct procedure?

On the original question - are you saying the TV needs to be set correctly?
All the HDMI inputs on the TV are capable of receiving 1080i signals. There
appears
to be no requirement or facility for manual set up.From the TV manual:
Max display resolution:
4:3 768 x 768
16:9 1024 x 768
PC (from HDMI terminal)
signal horizontal frequency (kHz) vertical frequency (Hz)
640 x 480 @ 60Hz 31.47 60.00
750 (720) / 60p 45.00 60.00
1125 (1080) / 60p 67.50 60.00

On the mythtv HDMI input the tv displays 720p / 50 Hz
On the 1st phillips HDD recorder (analogue tuner) on another HDMI input:
1080i / 50 Hz
On the 2nd phillips HDD recorder	(analogue tuner) on component input:
576i / 50 Hz
Tv internal tuner: 1080i /50Hz
Obviously the 1st HDD isn't really outputing 1080i .
The display settings in the xfce menu show a maximum resolution of 1280 x
720.
xorg.conf is:
Section "Screen"
	Identifier	"Default Screen"
	DefaultDepth	24
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
	Option	"Composite"	"Disable"
EndSection

Section "Device"
	Identifier	"Default Device"
	Driver	"nvidia"
	Option	"TVOutFormat"	"COMPONENT"
	Option	"TVStandard"	"HD1080p"
	Option	"DPI"	"100x100"
	Option	"NoLogo"	"1"
	Option	"ConnectedMonitor"	"TV"
EndSection

I'm wondering if adding this line would help:

Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
