In my system I have this:

KERNEL=="event*", ATTRS{name}=="IR-receiver inside an USB DVB receiver", 
SYMLINK+="input/dvb-ir"

and it still seems works perfectly but it doesn't get a lot of use because I 
have shifted my main FE off the BE PC..

If it makes any difference the system is based on Ububtu Jaunty - 9.04.
