I use a PS3 remote with a patch to the bluetooth stack that disconnects from
the remote after 5 minutes of non-use.

It only takes about a second or so to reconnect and doesn't case too many
issues with the WAF.

Batteries last about 2 months and so have 2 sets of rechargables is a 
good idea.
