I've replaced an old noisy whining 40G IDE HDD with one of these, with a Pentium 3000 AGP GA 8IPE1000-G
Rev 3 motherboard, using SATA 1.5G, with a PCI 9400 GT, mainly for its silence, and also expecting a bit of a speed bump on the FE.

It runs cold. I guess I'll find out if the missing TRIM feature is necessary.

It wouldn't install Mythbuntu 9.10 using the standard mode however did with the safety graphics mode. (After trying lots of
different bios settings to no avail!)

FWIW quick best:
 sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 2056 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1027.83 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 296 MB in 3.00 seconds = 98.55 MB/sec

cf Seagate 0.5T / Pentium 3000 / SATA 1.5
/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 1698 MB in 2.00 seconds = 848.50 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 272 MB in 3.03 seconds = 89.78 MB/sec

cf Seagate 1.5T / C2D Pentium 3.16 / SATA 3.0
/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 9068 MB in 2.00 seconds = 4544.02 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 364 MB in 3.00 seconds = 121.30 MB/sec

sudo hdparm -I /dev/sda
