I think this could be because before you had AC3 sound and now you have AAC!
Try switching the audio stream to AC3 for TV3 and see how it goes.

I believe that AC3 is a bit CPU intensive as well.
Hmmm, perhaps we could send the AC3 data to a separate thread for decoding. I 
know theres a thread to send the data to the audio card, but if we could do 
the decoding there too it might just be enough.
