Well I finally have got my HVR4000 working with DVB-S and DVB-T (they can't be used at the same time), but you can switch between them by just choosing them.
This is via a number of patches http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-4000

And mine http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2008-January/023416.html (via multiproto S/S2) or
http://dev.kewl.org/hauppauge/ (single and multi frontend pathes based with no multi proto S/S2) (only S)

I have

media1:/dev/dvb/adapter0# ls -la
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root      200 2008-02-07 23:12 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root       80 2008-02-07 23:28 ..
crw-rw---- 1 root video 212,  4 2008-02-07 23:12 demux0
crw-rw---- 1 root video 212, 20 2008-02-07 23:12 demux1
crw-rw---- 1 root video 212,  5 2008-02-07 23:12 dvr0
crw-rw---- 1 root video 212, 21 2008-02-07 23:12 dvr1
crw-rw---- 1 root video 212,  3 2008-02-07 23:12 frontend0
crw-rw---- 1 root video 212, 19 2008-02-07 23:12 frontend1
crw-rw---- 1 root video 212,  7 2008-02-07 23:12 net0
crw-rw---- 1 root video 212, 23 2008-02-07 23:12 net1

and because mythtv doesn't allow you use use the *1 interface I had to

media1:/dev/dvb/adapter1# ls -la
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 120 2008-02-07 23:29 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root  80 2008-02-07 23:28 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  24 2008-02-07 23:29 demux0 -> /dev/dvb/adapter0/demux1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  22 2008-02-07 23:28 dvr0 -> /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  27 2008-02-07 23:28 frontend0 -> /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  22 2008-02-07 23:28 net0 -> /dev/dvb/adapter0/net1

So mythtv sees basically 2 cards.

so I went into the mythtv setup.. and imported the channels.conf file. It makes a mess so you have to delete all the channels again delete the wrong transports and then scan the existing transports and then I have all the channels.

So what can I watch.. well. I can see the HD Sony demos playing on a number of channels (Picture only but they look impressive.. I dunno what codec they are using for the Audio, but I can't hear it under windows either.. anyone know? and the other channels just crash mythtv

Thanks
