This might be a silly suggestion, but only if it doesn't help... :)

Have a look at the recordedmarkup table in the database - perhaps run
a repair or optimize over it.  I have seen peculiar behaviour around
playback of recordings when this table gets in a b0rken state - it
contains all the MPEG seeking information.

On a more general note, who on the list ever gives the DB any
attention?  Every week or two I use phpmyadmin to run check tables
across all the mythconverg DB, but never anything more than that
(other than the irregular backup).
