Just thought I'd drop a quick note in (as recommended in my welcome email!)
to introduce myself having just joined the list.

Have been using MythTV in Christchurch NZ for the last 4 years or so, recent
disaster (cooked hard drives - small HTPC cases in closed cupboard in summer
= bad) has meant I'm rebuilding my backend system from scratch :/

Setup is basically a backend with PVR-350 on Sky Digital using homebrew
serial I/R transmitter and PVR-250 hooked to the roof aerial for FTA on a
MicroATX P4P800 motherboard / 2.8GHz P4 / 512Mb RAM system running Gentoo
Linux.

EPG from Hairy Geek (cheers!!! - you're a life saver!), and have written
some custom scripts to do IMDB matching / augmentation of listings using
tv_imdb etc.

Playback is mainly from networked PC's using VideoLan client (VLC) hooking
via MythWeb, but also have a 'converted' Xbox running Linux/MythTV on the
main living room TV as a frontend system.

Also (now!) have written a few monitoring scripts based around hddtemp,
lm_sensors and rrdtool to keep an eye on all my system temperatures /
voltages / fans and provide a nice web view of them - hopefully no more
cooked hard drives...

Am still in the process of rebuilding, not enough free time etc. but it's
going much more smoothly than I remember from last time (when I had to
hand-recode parts of ivtv to deal with NZ PAL tuning issues).

Some of you may know me from the LIRC configuration files I captured for the
Pace-RC30 and Motorola Sky Digital decoders used in New Zealand and
submitted to the LIRC project the last time I built my Myth system :)

Hassles at the moment:

md under Gentoo to provide mirrored system partitions (/, /var, swap, etc.)
and striped 'recording' partition on the replacement hard drives was harder
than it should have been, but sorted now.

x11-drm under Gentoo doesn't want to compile for anything later than 2.6.17
kernels, ivtv's latest version seems to be for 2.6.19 - I'd rather not have
to chose - still working on this. It's not like I really *need* drm or
accelerated glx on the backend anyway... but it should work damnit! :)

Hoping (against hope) that the 'day of week' display on MythWeather is fixed
now for NZ timezone :/

Umm, think that's it for now, anyway 'hi'

Jon.
