    			The LUUG Lectures

UKUUG - London Unix User Group

    Thursday 26th April 2001, 19:00-ish

No lecture this month, so more time for discussion of Life, Unix, and
Everything. Meet at the Rising Sun around 19:00, and move on for food
later. With a bit of luck there won't be a Tube strike this time!

    Lectures wanted!

LUUG is always on the lookout for interesting talks on subjects related
to Unix, Networking, Open Source, Security and so on. Can you suggest
someone who could give us a talk? Perhaps volunteer yourself?

SuSE have generously donated a copy of their 7.1 Professional
distribution to LUUG, which will be awarded to the first person to find
(or be) a speaker for us.

    Installfest

Lonix are holding a Linux Install Festival on Sunday 29th April. See
    below for details.

The LUUG lectures are sponsored by the UK Unix systems User Group.

Linux Install Festival - April 29

Date: Sunday 29 April 2001
Time: 11pm -> 5pm
Place: Turtle Networks, Victoria Industrial Estate,
Monarch House, Victoria Road, London W3 6UR
Directly opposite North Acton tube station, central line. Take the left exit
upon exiting the station, walk up the path and cross the road.
Phone: 020 8992 7008

Plenty of parking available, map available on www.lonix.org.uk shortly.
The place is situated just off Gypsy Corner and is next to Elizabeth Arden
and opposite to Cafe Bleu. The place is also near Natwest and the Castle Pub.

This event's aim will be helping you to install linux on your own machine.
There are a few monitors around the place so it's not essential to bring your
own, unless you want to make sure that the system works 100% on your monitor.
Turtle Networks (www.turtle.net) are kindly opening up their offices for the
event and providing light refreshments and snacks.

Opportunity to play around with various distributions including:

- Mandrake
- Suse 7.1 Professional including Kernel 2.4, ReiserFS and Xfree86 4.0.2
- Slackware 7.1 (for the hardcore :) )

There will also be a couple of masterclasses during which people will be
free to ask questions. The classes will be suitable for all users with
items aimed at beginners and experts alike.

Learn how to:

*       optimise your system
* compile a kernel specific for your machine
* install Linux alongside your Windows partitions

It is suggested that you make backups of your important data before you arrive.

There will be a few distributions, books and cds related to linux for sale.
If you are interested in helping out with installations then please get
in contact, the more the merrier.
