Dear all,

After three years absence, we are pleased to announce that the EC3
evening lectures are starting again.

I apologise if your circumstances have changed in that time and this
email is no longer appropriate. If that is the case please let me know
and I'll get you off the list.

You are being sent this reminder message because either you gave your
email address at one of our previous lectures or you signed up on the
web site associated with this email list:

http://lists.ourshack.com/mailman/listinfo/iee-ec3-news

I have appended the details of our next lecture and hope to see you
there.

I have attached a poster which you may wish to display in your place
of work.:

Please use the registration system mentioned at the end of this email
to give us an idea of numbers for catering but, don't worry if you
forget, just turn up on the night.

Please note that the lecture is in a different location from last
time.

Best wishes,

On safety and security requirements for industrial cyber-physical systems

Professor Shuang-Hua Yang, Computer Science, University of Reading

Industrial cyber-physical systems (iCPSs) refer to the next generation
of industrial systems that integrate information and physical spaces
through control, communication, and computation.

iCPSs map industrial processes to the information space through the
network, then monitor and control them and make intelligent decisions
in real-time. Due to the nature of networked systems, iCPSs are
exposed to risks from both physical and information spaces. Safety and
security (S&S) are the keys to reducing these risks, but with
potential issues of conditional dependence, independence and
contradiction.

This talk will introduce such contradictions and a systematic
methodology to identify the contradictions in S&S requirements for
iCPSs. To provide insight into the operations of the methodology, the
talk will demonstrate its application in a smart factory using
multiple automatic guided vehicles (AGV)
