Rural Broadband - The problems and solutions to them

Mike Thornton and Bill Pechey, Countryside Broadband Ltd

The comparison between broadband services in urban areas and those in
rural areas is stark and is getting worse because new, faster services
are almost always rolled out in cities first. Clearly, and primarily
because of the distances involved, rural services are more expensive
to provide and the operators' margins are less.

The speakers will explain why rural areas have fallen behind and what
is being done to redress the balance. After a short review of all the
available technologies, they will concentrate on how radio systems can
provide high- quality services in many rural areas.

This event is free of charge and open to all, with refreshments at 19.00.
