I don't 'aspire' to run anything.
I do run my own community network. It even has internet access on it
that users get for free (unless you're Joanna of course, because it gets
charged to her credit card).
I can understand your issue thou, history has shown in New Zealand that
people can't be trusted as far as you can throw them in the community area.
There have been lots of guys who have stood up and asked for and given
community support to build internet technology up, commericialised it,
forgeten about the orginal users, sold off their empire and then moved on.
I often wonder how many of those big ISPs around the world that have
built their fortunes on OSS, FLOSS, FOSS have ever bother to put money
back into the guys who did the work.
It's very common for people to be resentful of people who stand up to
run community projects in this space.
I've also had it commented that some people can be very hard to give
support to. This can also lead to people wondering who they are and
who's really behind them.
This is why I have stated at all levels (including conversations with
the guys in the Ministers office in Wellington) that my project is an
open source project and I will provide support to people who want to set
up the same thing as I'm doing in direct competition.... I think I made
Frank March's (MED policy maker in Wellington) day with that view.
Most people think I'm nuts don't get why I would do that. Many realise
I've got another agenda but then can't work out what it is and are to
afraid to ask. If they do ask they then either don't understand or
don't believe me.

I didn't work out how much Amway product we'd have to move to justify
our involvement in Amway. However we haven't moved enough to justify
signing up for a second year. I also didn't like the way they operated.
I was very embarrassed the way one guy turned up in the midst of a
meeting I was having one day with Rik.
I see value in systems like Amway to learn stuff but those guys aren't
that good at learning from customers.
Amway is one of many vehicles I've been setting up to empower people to
support my projects.
I've been empowering people to get better value from telecommuications
and IT for 20 years. Most people in this space don't have that agenda.
It's fun to see people enjoying technology...
I just got off a confrence skype call with my mother and brother - she's
in Wellington, he's in Kawakawa.
Cheers Don
