How does NT/2K/XP differ? NT/2k/XP Family is built on Monolithic Kernel which is believed to based on the VMS kernel. All its windowing systems are built right into the kernel. Its just like having xwindows built right into eg the linux kernel. which can make windows unstable. I believe its boot via a bootloader..
