Installation(?)/operation unsuccessful on centos 6.9 - I need help please.

Update - I booted from a live debian jessie disc, installed the dependencies and the onerng_3.5-1_all.deb from github.

Setup was about as simple as it gets and everything works exactly as it should.

Pertaining to my question above about my centos installation, it seems I must have something wrong on my end so I'll do some investigating.
