No matter what you do, make sure you insert it correctly into the USB header!
I bought a couple of internal OneRNGs while waiting for new externals to get in stock, and I accidentally inserted one upside down into my desktop computer. The screen went blank instantly and the machine hasn't been able to power on since then.
I suppose my motherboard (MSI Z97A Gaming 7) not did have any USB overcurrent protection...

I have just ordered a new motherboard, CPU and RAM, hoping that the damage is limited to these components. I also had two water-cooled GTX 980 Ti's installed ($1000+ each), so I'm really crossing my fingers. :-(
