[chbot] Unlocking a microSDHC or SDXC card

Hello,
Sounds like a failure condition that the controller has detected or possibly a failure with the controller. I have found ADATA controllers to be pretty decent on 2.5” SSD’s…. But they do have their issues.
The locking up the machine sounds more like an error on part of the memory which the controller has not managed to compensate for / notice. I think it is great you have access to your data on these failed cards. Fills me with confidence in those brands.
Lexar memory sticks and SSD cards. Had plenty of them they all have failed over the years (normally within 6 months to a year). So no surprise there. Anyone had better luck with this brand.

I have tried several SD to microSD card adaptors and a USB microSD card reader, and attempts to delete the files on this card look like they succeed, but the files are still accessible afterwards. (It does lock up the Windows 10 "Eject Disk" process though.) This card has been in use in the Samsung phone for over a year, and the phone is still happily working with a new card.

Use of the USB reader to read the 32GB ATADA card results in a message to "Please insert a disk into USB drive E:", followed by a message saying the disk needs to be formatted (which doesn't complete) while use of a card size adaptor does not result in any recognition of the card, i.e. no drive letter is offered.nor is there any "new device" chime. The Lexar card gives a similar result except that Windows 10 was unable to even determine its size.

It could be that something happened and they had problems the controller figured was bad enough to look the device. I do know that some really high end malware is capable of getting into HDD / SSD controller firmware so I suppose it could be possible to do this to the firmware on an microSD card (never heard of that).

I have tried a number of methods including trying to reformat them in a camera, using a Hard Disk Low Level Formatting Tool, using AOMEI Partition Assistant, and using SD Card Formatter. Nothing seems to be able to change the card's contents. I have two cards, one of which (64GB SDXC card) is readable, even after all of the reformatting attempts. The other (32GB SDHC card) is more totally bricked. I am not worried about the contents of these cards, just after a way to allow these cards to be reused.
