I like this.
Might go with a short USB A to Micro USB cable then make the diode power
junction inside a USB A type M-F extender cable.
CPU consumes about 50mA at 3.3V, so 500mA diodes, and can be made for
next to nothing.
So almost zero cost, very little heat, no modifications to the CPU board.
