thank you.
the programmer that i am using is a JDM derivative so it is pretty much just
a way of misusing the serial port to connect directly to the PIC. AFIK as
long as the software supports the PIC then the programmer does because it is
the software that does most of hte job.  I'll double check everything anyway
and i think that the issue is more software related htan hardware anyway. i
want to find a Win98 or Win2k machine to try it on.
