[mythtvnz] Having trouble connecting HDHR to ethernet port

Better you than me mate! I was planning on doing this same thing. As
I'm afraid of what this little box is doing to my home network when it
is recording. But I still need to pick up an ethernet card, was
concerned that I'd need set up _another_ service (dhcp) on my box.
So have you configured the static ip on your ethernet port? with some
versions of linux/windows, if the OS doesn't detect a dhcp server it
will automagically give you an ip in that range (169.254.x.x). But
with static you should be able to see it.
Is there a link light on your card when you plug it into the hdhr?
On a related note, what is a good/simple networks statistics tool that
i could use to see what the traffic on my network looks like. I've
tried NTOP, but I'm still a bit confused by it's output.
