My thanks to Jim and Stephen for the channels.conf files.
The S421 is now working heaps better; the main obstacle to progress seemed to
be multiple (12 in fact) entries in the database for cards all claiming to be
/dev/usb/adapter0/frontend0, despite my having deleted them in mythtv-setup.
Once I cleaned them out for real, using SQL, it sprang into life.
Or mostly! The 12483 stations all work, the 12456 ones will not lock. On my
set-top satellite receiver both groups work fine, and show solid 72% signal
strength and 98% s/n. To get to the S421 the signal goes through another 20
metres or so of cable, with 2 joints in it. Is that likely to cause sufficient
loss to give problems on one frequency but not on the other?
Sample szap outputs:
$ szap -l 11300 -n 1
reading channels from file '/home/austin/.szap/channels.conf'
zapping to 1 'TV ONE;Television New Zealand':
sat 0, frequency = 12483 MHz H, symbolrate 22500000, vpid = 0x0203, apid =
0x028d sid = 0x0243
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
