Thanks for the tip David. That seems to be the problem, if I reboot and
not start that (I'd started it from the GUI each time) it behaves again.
I don't recall it being updated but maybe it was, I'll do some
googling of that when I get a mo. to see if there are any similar
reports. Backend seems ok now without that running. When it was
running for some period the Window to System Monitor would become
un-responsive and refuse to close, which made it hard to kill it there!
When I am game I'll run it again and kill it via a terminal to confirm
that is the culprit.
