I can connect from the frontend machine to the backend machine with mysql.

~$ mysql -h 192.168.1.14 -u mythtv -P 3306 mythconverg -p
Enter password:
Reading table information for completion of table and column names
You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A

Does that not show it is OK?

I will study that xbmc page and see if I can get to the bottom of it
