I suspect that TV tuner cards (cheap RF frontends) are badly affected by
low signal strength & strong adjacent (& not so adjacent) signals.
High level input signals causes gain compression.
Just broadband amplifying the antenna signal can just make things worse.
All amplifiers reduce signal to noise ratio but most do have band
selectable gain which may help.
Analogue TV tuners were generally good radio receivers especially small
portable Sonys.
It is easy to see that digital TV receivers could be better than
computer TV tuner cards, there must be a standard for Freeview
compliance (at least).
Best solution is more signal gain at the antenna but only selectively.
For UHF dvb-t you do not want hi-gain VHF antenna or VHF/UHF combo.
For urban canyon you can use multi-path with hi-gain low directional
ganged array antenna.
How would you describe your reception location ?

Use by selecting waypoints: start with Tx tower (& height asl), then Rx
site, profile shows potential problems..
Data could be wrong/out-of-date.
Waiatarua is 387m+39m asl, 97KW 52dBW power EIRP approx.670MHz
