"Total fail after upgrade" prompts this. There is a 11.04 Natty update for Xorg 1.9 to 2.0 that will break all the current close source drivers. (info from Ubuntu natty forums). Guess, at some stage, this will turn up in 10.10 & 10.04 backports.
