Kernel 2.6.36 has lots of lirc changes..kernel drivers are already in
the kernel & may have different names/more modules ?..

You are on kernel 2.6.xx ? suse 11.4 ?? The other poster was using
*buntu 10.04 kernel 2.6.32..could be the difference.
