I just bought my first LCD TV (Samsung LAxxC650), and I had exactly the same experience.  I found it difficult to describe, but it made everything look like a daytime soap.  Everything seemed too realistic - I wasn't watching James Bond 'Quantum of Solace' based in various exotic locations, I was now watching Daniel Craig acting on a movie set pretending to be in London/Paris/etc...  It was very distracting and completely ruined the feel of the movie.

Turns out it was the 'motion flow' technology in the TV used to interpolate intermediate images.  Once I disabled that, the issue disappeared immediately.
