[mythtvnz] No Sound & Black screen lockup in mythfrontend 0.24

I'm having these problems with 10.04 with JYA's repos build 27315.  
Black screen lock is when exiting from a program.  System is otherwise 
upto date with nvidia 195 drivers.  Are there any nvidia driver 
combinations that are known to be bad with the new version of myth?
No audio, it says it can't access /dev/mixer even though it's there with 
666 permissions.

any ideas?
