At work we did extensive testing using various filesystems on external
USB drives for backups, and found that XFS was good but it needed manual
intervention with fsck more than JFS.
ext2/3 were okay but occasionally you'd have a 6 hour fsck specially if
the USB was unplugged wrong.
You need a filesystem that deletes 1-10 GB files quickly, so that would
be JFS or XFS.
