In fairness to the i5-950 it is pretty power efficient when idling.. more so
than the core2's I think.
It is my backend machine, with a couple of VM's running on there, plus I do
all my transcoding on there.
And it seemed like it was the best bang for buck at the time last Christmas.

I haven't seen any playback issues - I'm running XBMC 10.0.RC2 r35567 (Dec
2)
Thou I did need to manually update the Mythbox addon to RC2
(http://code.google.com/p/mythbox/ ) into /.xbmc/addons/script.mythbox
For support for a myth .24 backend.
