[mythtvnz] test tv card

Hi Guys,
 
I've spent most of the afternoon trying to get mythtv to find some DVB-S
channels on my HVR4000. Sigh.
 
I'm looking for some command line tools that I can use to configure and test
the card; I have no idea what settings to use and this seems like a quick way
to fool around. The mythtv gui is driving me spare, and I don't know how to
locate any logs/info it might be creating about my problem.
 
It'd be nice if somebody could link me to a decent howto as well.  I haven't
been able to find a site yet.
