I took the jump and bought a Zotac ion hoping this would work.
Yes it does work and the picture is stunning compared to my old Via
frontend with s-video.
As Brett said in reply to my original post, you need to make sure your
TV has RGB-Scart (mine does), also your motherboard needs to be able to
output PAL clock rates out the VGA port (Zotac ion can, I have read that
my old via couldn't).

Can anybody confirm or deny if vdpau can output an SD pal signal to a TV
via a VGA to Scart(RGB) converter cable (see
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/RGB_Scart) ?
I have a HD movie projector but an older SD lounge TV. The movie room
is OK but the lounge is a problem. I'm hoping I will be able to use a
Zotac ION Atom in the lounge to play HD recordings on my SD TV. The
ultimate plan is to replace the lounge TV but smaller steps are easier
to justify.
