Okay you were right and I was wrong.  The field is editable.
However my problem is still there:

And suddenly it makes progress.... I configured Video Sources as NONE 
and it happily found some channels.

Now I need to find out why it won't get any EIT info, and why I can't 
even open Watch Live TV.  Running mythfilldatabase  makes no mention of 
eit data at all.
